Welcome! This Course Map is going to offer you a practical and realistic solution to achieve your highest goals and dreams.
Before you can start receiving these solutions, you will need to acknowledge the problems many students face when they are asked to think about and make decisions about their future.
For a glimpse of just one of theses problems, read the following from the book 'Your Right Job Right Now':
"With my fears of abandonment and betrayal deeply rooted in the core of my being, I arrived at the university feeling completely lost. I knew only one person and had no idea what I was doing or why I was doing it. On my first day, I met with an academic advisor.
This was the second significant experience of my young career. The advisor brought me into her office, smiled at me, and asked me the big question: “So, Brian, what do you want to major in? What do you want to do with your life?”
Every cell in my body heard the question. Not one of them had an answer.
I suppose if I could have answered her honestly, it would have gone something like this:
“Listen, lady, I just got here, and I haven’t the foggiest idea what I’m doing, let alone what I want to do with my life. But if you must know, I started out wanting to be Spider-Man. Then I wanted to be a fireman. My dreams got put off when I found out I had to attend school for the next thirteen years, which is an extremely long time when you’re only five. Anyway, I didn’t do so well at school at first but then I met a great teacher named Mrs. Brown. She made me feel real good about myself and my ability to write. So I thought that I wanted to be a writer. But then fifth grade ended and Mrs. Brown was no longer my teacher. I don’t remember the names of any of my next teachers because they weren’t very good, which means school got really boring again. At that point I lost all interest in becoming anything at all, until I found out that everything counted. I was informed that if I didn’t do well in middle school and high school I couldn’t become what I wanted when I grew up. I became so afraid of being a loser I got motivated to do well in school. Oh, by the way, did I mention I haven’t seen or heard from my crazy mom in four years and that my dad sold me out for a woman with four kids? I picked a school in California to be as far from my wacked-out family as I could. I would have gone out of state, heck I would have gone out of this universe to get away from them. But the only schools I could afford are in this state. The only thing I know for certain is I want to be close to the ocean and mountains. I don’t suppose I can major in ‘I like the ocean and mountains.’ So here I am. I know one person. I don’t have much money. I haven’t had a positive thought about myself, let alone my future, in as long as I can remember and you’re asking me ‘what do you want to do with the rest of your life?’ Gee, lady, if you really need an answer I’m going to have to go with, “I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO FRCKIN’ IDEA!”
Instead I sheepishly asked, “What are my options?”
