Summary:

Step 1

Hello and welcome back!

Today let's get quiet.

Think about your favorite song or movie or friendship. Whatever puts a smile on your face, spend 1 minute thinking about that.

After 60 seconds, gauge how much more at peace you feel.

Step 2

Today we're headed in a direction meant to keep that smile on your face. We want to show you how to avoid friend or relationship smash ups.

Are you hesitant to distance yourself from bad dating relationships or toxic friends?

Would it help to understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy?

Head for the video icon above and watch both clips. Let us know if this was helpful when you've finished.

Step 3

Here's your next challenge.

If there's a person who meets the standards of an unhealthy friend or relationship, then now's a great time to go your separate ways.

If you want to avoid heart wreck, then you're going to have to follow this guidance as is, no exceptions. Big deep breath. You're going to have to trust that we understand and know what we're saying here.

No need for a big show down. Let the person know you need a little time out. Be firm. Be strong. Show courage.

If this is hard for you, think about it this way, a time out on your terms shows basic human decency towards yourself.

DO NOT text, post messages, email, phone or communicate in any way with this person for the next two days and see how you feel at that time.

How confident are you that you can follow this guidance without any exceptions?

Step 4

To increase your confidence and willpower, reach out to one of the following and tell them what you are doing: pastor, youth leader, trusted friend, teacher, coach, neighbor, supportive boss or a mentor.

Don't forget that you have an online community through JP's Next Step Camps.

If you haven't already joined, you can do so by posting your email in the last open space at the bottom of the page. Support from others can help encourage you to keep moving forward.

How strongly will you commit to follow this direction?

Step 5

If you have a chance and need to fill a void created by the time out, watch a movie or TV show of your choice today that shows people overcoming difficult situations.

Which one are you thinking of watching?

Step 6

When are you going to make the call?

If you back out, what agreement are you making with yourself?

Step 7

Whatever you decide, we hope to see you back here tomorrow.
