Summary: Making disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Step 1

In the Fourth Step of Discipleship, we established how a disciple goes about setting his or her priorities and goals.

In the Fifth Step we are going to develop how a disciple achieves those priorities and grows toward their goals.

Are you ready?

Step 2

When it comes to your personal growth (professionally, financially, emotionally or spiritually), how much do you feel that you need to rely on your own ingenuity, strength, perseverance, etc?

Step 3

Elaborate on your answer in the space provided.

Step 4

Read Matthew 6:25-33

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Select 'Successful' when you are finished.

Step 5

Go to 'DOCUMENTS' and read Oswald Chambers' observations on the true source of our growth.

Select the 'Successful' response when you are finished.

Step 6

Oswald Chambers claims, "If you want to be of use to God, get rightly related to Jesus Christ and He will make you of use unconsciously every minute you live."

Ask the Holy Spirit to apply His word in Matthew 6:25-33 to how you are approaching your current goals, needs, dreams, priorities and pursuits.

Now, ask Him to speak you through a Bible verse, impression, 'quiet whisper', image, etc.

You can write any revelations you receive in the space provided.

Step 7

Read Jesus' words in John 10:27:

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."

Now get quiet and ask Jesus what is He doing in your life and what specifically He would like you to do about it.

You may use the space provided to record what you hear. (Note: remember, anything your Lord asks you to do cannot conflict with the word of God.)

Step 8

Are you willing to make a commitment to do what He is asking of you?

Step 9

How important is it to you to follow through on your commitment?

Step 10

The key to making your relationship to God the 'dominating concentration of your life', is to commit to the daily discipline of walking with Him.

Given all the distractions, needs and demands competing for your time and attention each day, you will require a way to make that discipline as simple, effective and personalized as possible.

'Mustard Seed' will continue to guide you in the step-by-step, day-by-day walk down the narrow path of following Christ, Jesus.

'Seek first my kingdom and my righteousness...', Are you willing to commit yourself to the daily discipline of seeking His Kingdom and righteousness?

Step 11

Tomorrow, the 'Your Sixth Step' of discipleship will appear on your Day Plan.

See you back on the Trail then!
